Monday 10th June - walk *** – River Orwell at Nacton – Rainy start
then sunshine and showers, breezy too.
With strong winds from the north and a good tide for the Stour I was
tempted by a trip to Wrabness but when it was time to leave it was gusting
over 30 knots, 9 degrees and raining so I decided to give it a miss, having
a drive around Felixstowe to take some gloomy pics to send to the TV
weather! With time on my hands I posted over 50 pics on Facebook of Maggies
lovely little garden and asked people to nname the flowers and plants,
getting a really good response:) Then after breakfast and to my surprize
the sun made a return and I even managed my exercises in the garden, I then
decided to pack a picnic which I hadn’t expected to do today and with the
wind in the north I decided to drive to Nacton shores as it would be
sheltered. We parked at two and were walking down to the River Orwell
through the woods when it absolutely tipped it down, luckily we could
shelter under the trees! The rain cleared so we continued down to the very
quiet Orwell which looked lovely with the tide high and the dark cloud
moving downstream:) We turned right to go to our spot just past the
thatched cottage near the tiny concrete dock. We had to walk along the
narrow beach and scramble up to the very muddy footpath as we walked
through the lovely woods. Out of the trees we saw loads of sheep with lots
of lambs then down onto the beach again, with the tide very high we had to
stop opposite Pin Mill for our picnic lunch and lovely it was too:) Then
back through the woods to Nacton Shores with only one fisherman in sight as
we walked a little way towards Levington, then home for a well deserved
cuppa and some freshly made cheese scones:)
